The mission of the IEEE 5G Initiative Roadmap is as follows:

Based on horizon scanning, interviews and expert knowledge, the mission of the 5G Roadmap working group is to identify short (~3 years), mid-term (~5 years) and long-term (~10 years) research, innovation and technology trends in the communications ecosystem. This will enable the development of a concrete innovation and engagement roadmap guiding the IEEE community towards maximum impact contributions across its societies, and in conjunction with its demand-side as well as the wider industry and standards ecosystem. The outcome shall be a live document with a clear set of (accountable) recommendations; the document shall be updated annually and be developed in conjunction with the other working groups.

The roadmap workshop objective is to continue the work underway to produce the Beyond 5G Technology Roadmap.

On Day 1, Wednesday, May 23, each roadmap working group team will have opportunities to meet with their teams (and others working groups) to discuss their roadmap needs and challenges to evolve beyond 5G.  Teams include Standardization Building Blocks, Millimeter Wave, Hardware, Massive MIMO, Applications and Services, Edge Automation Platform, Security, Satellite, and Testbed.

On Day 2, Thursday, May 24, these working groups will present their progress.

The meeting will start in the Washington Ballroom at Westin Crown Center. The workshop is co-located with ICC 2018; those attending ICC are welcome to attend. Attendance is complimentary.

The Beyond 5G Roadmap Workshop will also be available via Webex for those who cannot attend onsite.
